She is really the greatest of her time,
Serena Williams won her 20th Grand Slam tournament with a 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-2 victory over Lucie Safarova in the French Open final on Saturday.
The 20 titles include three French Opens, six Australian Opens, five Wimbledons and six United States Opens. She now ranks alone in third all-time behind Margaret Court with 24 and Steffi Graf with 22. Williams improved her record against the veteran Safarova to 9-0. Top seeded Williams, 33, won despite a shaky tournament overall. She lost the first set four times leading to the final, and suffered from the flu during her semifinal victory over Timea Bacsinszky. The 13th seeded Safarova, 28, was playing in her first Grand Slam final. She is a late bloomer, having made her first Slam semifinal only last year. She has never won a major tournament on tour. But Safarova swept through a rough draw at this tournament without the loss of a set, until the final.
