Man experimentally changed LinkedIn profile to 'CEO Shell' for 24 hrs, You Won't Believe the result!!

This is the same reason why people still get scammed,  a lot of people hardly verify what they see on the Internet. Smh

One white guy, trying to experiment how people trust LinkedIn information, changed his LinkedIn profile position to "CEO, Shell", for 24 hours and what happened next is simply mind blowing. The lesson I learned from the guy's article is it isn't only in Nigeria that we have gullible followers who fall for sarcasm or don't check background before believing a story. Lol

Read an excerpt from his article below

A few weeks ago I changed my role to CEO of one of the world's largest enterprise. With this I wanted to test my assumption that people would critically assess the authenticity of information this social network. I was curious to see the effect.

I noticed that there is a huge trust in the accuracy of LinkedIn profiles. When you compare LinkedIn to twitter, Facebook or Instagram you see that people tend to post serious and correct information on LinkedIn. On twitter I can be "CyberGoofbal83" and post all kinds of facts and lies just to amuse my followers. On Facebook we tend to be partly serious and humorous.

I changed my Job title and employer overnight from "Manager Development of AMIS" to "CEO of Shell".

The following things happened:
I received almost 400 likes and 80 customized comments.

I got more than 500 emails with a personal message.

10 of my closest co-workers called within 2 hours.

I got almost 25 text messages.

I spontaneously received 10 CV's and requests for a job at my new company.

2 offshore companies sent me an email to get an appointment as soon as possible.

What have I learned?

There is a huge difference in trust on the accuracy of the content between different social networks. Even though the validation of new content is done with the same accuracy the LinkedIn network offers a higher implicit trust in the validity of the content compared to other networks.

Most people trust what they read on LinkedIn. Even though it is in conflict with their gut feeling; "when it is on LinkedIn, it must be true."

Be critical of what you read on the Internet (including LinkedIn)

I realized that there can be a huge difference between what someone can write down and the actual achievements of a person. What you read on LinkedIn could be the result of window dressing or just a plain lie. Performing a background check when hiring a new candidate is always a good idea.

RIP: Matthew Odusami, final year UNILAG undergraduate dies in hostel while playing football

A 500-level undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Odusami Matthew, has died after slumping at the Biobaku Hostel.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Matthew, a student at the Estate Management Department, was playing football with some of his friends on Friday when he slumped.

He was reportedly rushed to the school's medical centre where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Journalists were told that the remains of the student had been deposited at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

When our correspondent visited the hostel on Monday, one of the residents confirmed that the incident happened around 4pm.

He said, "He stayed in this hostel. Around 4pm, he decided to play football with some of his friends. He was not tackled neither was he with the ball when he collapsed.

"Nobody understood what went wrong with him. He was rushed to the medical centre, but he died on the way. It's really a shock to us."

A colleague of the victim, who spoke to our correspondent at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, said Matthew cried that his head was stiff before he died.

"Actually, he had stopped playing. He took time off to rest and sat on the sideline. Suddenly, he started crying that his head was stiff and he could not feel anything again. He slumped shortly after and died," the colleague, who did not want to be named, said.

A man, who claimed to be Matthew's close friend, said he spoke with him on Friday, adding that he never had any premonition that he would die suddenly.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the friend said, "He was a nice guy. He was also hard working. He had a strong second class upper grade. I still cannot believe he's gone. I am grieving and don't want to say more than that."

However, the Deputy Registrar and Head of Information Unit, University of Lagos, Mr. Toyin Adebule, said Matthew was playing football at the university's sports centre, where he slumped and was rushed to the medical centre.

He said, "A student was brought from the sports centre to the medical centre. When he got there, he did not have any sign of life. The director of health centre and other workers there tried to resuscitate him to no avail. He was dead.

"The dean of students' affairs and other representatives of the school were there. We have reached the family and broken the news to them. Our prayers are with them that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss."

MOTHER'S LOVE!! Cristiano Ronaldo's mother attacks Dimitri Payet for injuring her son

There is love like that of the mother for her child they say,  and this is a clear case of the exhibition of motherly love

Cristiano Ronaldo's mother launched an attack on France midfielder Dimitri Payet after his robust tackle forced her son out of the Euro 2016 final after just 25 minutes.

The stage was set for Ronaldo to write the headlines as he finally got the chance to realise his dream of leading Portugal to a major international trophy, only for his night to be curtailed midway through the first half.

Ronaldo twice attempted to continue, but was forced to concede defeat as a knee injury meant he was unable to play on. He left the field in tears, with his head in his hands as he was carried off on a
stretcher, although he was soon prominent on the touchline giving out the orders to his teammates.

Portugal went on to win their first major tournament after substitute Eder came off the bench to score an extra-time winner to secure the 1-0 victory to give Ronaldo the moment he had dreamt of for years, with the 31-year-old lifting the trophy high into the air while repeatedly screaming "vamos!" at the top of his voice.

I cannot see my son in this way," his mum wrote in Portuguese. "The game is about kicking the ball, not hurting the opponent.

"My son left the field but our team can win. I trust that we will be able to lift the cup."

Ronaldo was given a standing ovation by French supporters as well as his own fans, while Payet was subsequently booed each time he received the ball as well as when he was substituted by France head coach Didier Deschamps in the second half.
