Don't Be Carried Away, See The Origin Of Black Friday #Blackfriday

A lot of you might not know this,  but a picture speak a thousand words.....

It was a time during the slave Era where black slaves were sold at cheaper rate.

Am not saying don't shop.  Am saying Know

5 Facts You Did Never Knew About Black Friday

1.Black Friday traditionally happens the day after Thanksgiving - which is an official holiday celebrated in theUnited States (on the 4th Thursday in November) and Canada. It is marked by huge discounts offered by retailers and it also officially kicks off the Christmas shopping season.

2. The first recorded use of the term "Black Friday" was in September 1869 when the United States gold market experienced a crash after financiers,Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, bought up the nation's supply and the federal government was forced to dump more into the market. Many lost their lives savings in the crash and the ensuing scandal helped bring down the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant.

3. The term once again came up  in the 1950s when police officers inPhiladelphia started using it to refer to the day after Thanksgiving, when traffic jams and tourists flooded into the city's shopping district before the annual Army-Navy football game held on the ensuing Saturday. The resulting chaos would often lead police officers to work long shifts to protect merchants from attempts by shoplifters to take advantage of the huge crowds by hauling off merchandise. Thus, everyone who had to work that day referred to it as a bleak time, or a Black Friday.

4. In lieu of the above, many merchants in Philadelphia didn't really like the connotations that came with "Black Friday" so they tried to coin a new term, Big Friday. It however didn't catch on and eventually retailers in the city adapted it to represent the profits that came as a result of the increase in business. Soon enough, the term spread through the US and became common nationwide by the 1980s.

5. Back home in Nigeria, the term gained prominence following the emergence of online retail stores Jumia and Kongawho introduced Black Friday sales in 2013.

5 Smart Ways Of Shopping On Black Friday Like A Pro (Jumia.com or Konga. Com)

The much Anticipated once in a year Black Friday price slash bonanza is here again and in few minutes our online shopping stores like Konga.Com and Jumia.com will be flooded by shoppers ready to buy their dream appliance or toy for a much lesser price, but for you not to waste your time or be disappointed at the end of the day there are some pro tactics that you can employ to hit your black jackpot and they are

1. DO YOUR HOMEWORK
Don't forget this step,

Make a shopping list, then do your due diligence so you know which store has your wish-list items at the best price. Check stores' websites, sign up for their newsletters, and browse their social media accounts. If you're going bricks-and-mortar shopping, map out your route, noting what time stores open and close.

2. KNOW YOUR BUDGET

It's worth saying again: Just because something is on sale, doesn't mean it's a good buy. Everything about Black Friday — the low prices, big ads, bold claims — is designed to entice shoppers to part with their cash.

To avoid spending a fortune needlessly in the name of a bargain, make a list and a budget and stick to it. The worst thing you can do is show up to malls unprepared. "It's important to establish your needs versus wants list," said shopping expert Kristina Matisic. "Browsing is not good for budgeting."

An extra tip for the weak-willed: "If you really want to stick to a budget, bring cash. And debit cards don't count."

3. GET A GOOD INTERNET SERVICE

THIS has always been the problem for most people,  so you have to get the best network cause during the rush hour, the sites are vulnerable to shutting down due to too much people trying to get a deal at the same time

4. CLICK AWAY

Shopping online is a breeze: No crowds, no checkout lines. That's not to say it doesn't ever get insane. Hot items fly off virtual shelves within seconds and there's nothing as heartbreaking as watching an item vanish from your checkout cart because you're not fast enough.

Matisic recommends creating an account beforehand or filling out as much information as you can in the checkout process. You can also leave coveted items in your shopping cart so that when the sale starts, you're ready.

5. SHOP SMART

It's easy for shoppers to get swept up in the shopping frenzy, but before you pay, make sure you know the return and exchange policy, especially if you are shopping for gifts and want to give recipients the option of returning or exchanging an item, said Matisic.

Good luck now go get it,  you are a pro shopper if you follow these steps.
