JUST IN: APC Ward Chairman Attacked by Thugs, Inflicted With Severe Matchet Wounds

APC Ward 17 Chairman, Kingsley Emenike was attacked by thugs suspected to be supporters of the PDP at Rumuagholu, Obio-Akpor.

DAILY POST gathered that the thugs inflicted Emenike with severe matchet wounds.

An eyewitness who spoke with DAILY POST said the APC Chieftain was attacked when he tried to stop members of the PDP from destroying an APC banner in the area, "they were still arguing when one boy carried matchet and hit the man on his head," the witness said.

Just yesterday (Monday) members of the All Progressives Congress in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State staged a peaceful protest to the Rivers state Police Command.

The protesters also carried their demonstration to the Office of the Department of State Services.

They trooped out in their thousands, carried placards calling on the police to be neutral and remain non-partisan ahead of the next month's general elections.

Leader of the APC in Obio-Akpor, Tony Okocha had said members of the party may resort to self-help if the security agencies failed in their promise to protect APC members in the area.

"We have come to protest the killing of innocent Nigerians in the watchful eyes of the police; it is abnormal.

"Before now, the PDP has boasted that they are in charge of the police. And with these things we are seeing now, it seems they are right.

"We will not continue to fold our arms and watch these scenarios without helping ourselves.

"We have come to you so that you can bare us witness to let Nigerians know that there is orgy of violence in Obio-Akpor Local government.

"If the security agencies don't do anything about it, we may resort to self help. We will let them know that our peaceful disposition does not mean we are weaklings," Okocha emphasised.Rivers: Thugs inflict machete wounds on APC chieftain
