Nigeria moves six places up in FIFA ranking

After Nigeria's impressive performance against Mali and Luxemburg, in international friendlies, the Super Eagles moved six places up in FIFA ranking for the month of June released yesterday by the world football governing body.

According to the ranking, Nigeria moved from 67th position in the May ranking to 61, making it the twelfth-ranked African side. Super Eagles victories in international friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg last week ensured they amassed 559 points to move up.

In Africa, they are placed behind Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Congo DR, Guinea, Cameroon and Congo. Algeria moved one place up to number 32 in the world, while reigning African kings, Cote d'Ivoire, moved two places to place number 36. Argentina and Belgium with 1503 and 1384 points respectively hold firm to the first and second spot in the world while Austria returned to the top 10 with UEFA Euro hosts France, moving up four places to 17th in the world. Slovakia and Madagascar were top movers.
