Photography is a major art that roughly 80% of the world's population engage in. Photography is actually an art that soaks itself within societal norms, events and occasions, especially in social gatherings and areas concerned with aesthetics.
The world's image is captured by photography, Hence this art is essential and important mostly for the sake of entertainment and appreciation or simply for the sake of one's interest in creating archives of his or her past activities, or simply one's interest in knowing what he or she looks like.
But some cultures believe that the art of photography has a dark side to it. This cultures believe that picture taking (photography) steals the soul gradually,in some part of native America and some parts of the Caribbean, belief of this kind is held firmly.
Though this beliefs look spiritual and supernatural and even superstitious, but examining this claim with a bit of common sense, one can assume that, could it be that when taking a picture of a person there are radio -active waves especially carried out by the camera flash, that can negatively affect the person health- wise ?well it is a known fact that flash photography can cause some unwanted nervous reactions especially to patients that are epileptic.
Some people are known to feel drowsy when they are being captured frequently by camera flashes. So could we rightly assume with these empirical experiences caused by photography is a foundation to the supernatural claim that photography steals the soul?
This claim itself is not literal as it seems, it may mean that taking constant pictures can lead to a speedy death maybe due to some negative side effects that is accompanied with the camera lights or flash, and as noted earlier, maybe this side-effects are caused by some radioactive waves that can harm the internal body structure.
The concept of the "soul" depicts an invisible life force that keeps humans alive, therefore the soul in actual sense is the living body which is quite fragile and can easily be diseased, and photography is one of the instrument that preys on that fragility of the living body(soul).
This is supposedly the physical basis of the dark claim that photography steals the soul. People enjoy taking pictures from teens to adults but most of them probably are unaware of this spiritual belief about picture taking,
even currently with the popular trend of "selfies" that has become an obsession to people, and most at times things that kills human beings the most are things we are obsessed with.
