In 2011, Lil Wayne satiated fans anxious to get a hold of Tha Carter IV by releasing Sorry 4 the Wait, a stop-gap mixtape comprised mostly of random freestyles, remixes, and other sorted interludes. Now, with his long-awaited Carter V facing similar delays stemming from an ongoing tiff with Cash Money, Wayne offers yet another mea culpa with Sorry 4 the Wait 2.
Spanning 17 tracks, the tape features contributions from Drake, 2 Chainz, Mack Maine, and Christina Milian, with whom Wayne reworks the Beyonce-Jay Z duet "Drunk In Love". Other notable beats Wayne spits over include Future's "Shit", Rae Sremmurd's "No Type", Meek Mill's "Dreams and Nightmares", OG Maco's "U Guessed It", and O.T. Genasis' "CoCo".
More than a mere apology to fans, the tape also seems to be Weezy's way of working out frustrations regarding the drama with Cash Money and TCV's incessant delays. The cover art (above) is a clear reference to comments Wayne made about being held "prisoner" by his label. He also explores the same issues on "Shit", wherein he raps, "Did my time in Cash Money, time served and released / But this agent ain't freed, that's the word on the streets."
